The Heritage Study will run through the remainder of 2010, with Working Groups cataloging Greenway assets, documenting threats and needs of these assets, and devising Opportunities for improve stewardship of the landscape. The Heritage Study will result in the completion of a Cooperative Stewardship Framework, a document that will serve as a guide for sustaining the Greenway into the future, and a Feasibility Study that will recommend whether or not to pursue designation as a National Heritage Area. If the Greenway community chooses the NHA model as a means to recognize the landscape, it is anticipated that designation will be sought in Winter of 2011. To pursue designation, the National Park Service recommends completion of a feasibility study with public involvement, demonstration of widespread public support for the proposed designation, and commitment from key constituents, including governments, non-profit organizations, and area residents.
