What is the process for hiring a temporary foreign worker?
If required, an employer applies for a labour market opinion (LMO) from Service Canada. There are various programs available depending on the job offer. The foreign worker candidate then applies for a work permit to Citizenship and Immigration Canada at a visa post located outside of Canada. Alternately, visa exempt foreign nationals are eligible to apply for a work permit at a port of entry if they hold a confirmation from Service Canada and do not require a medical examination.
