What is the process for getting prior authorization?
In-network providers within North Carolina will obtain prior authorization for the member. If the member chooses to see a provider outside of the Blue Options network or outside of North Carolina, the member is responsible for requesting or having his/her provider request prior authorization. The in-network provider or the member, if using an out-of network or out-of-state provider, should contact BCBSNC toll-free at 1-800-672-7897 or fax the request to 1-866-225-5258. All members should be advised to consult their benefits information for liability penalties surrounding prior approval.
