What is the process for applying for ordination as a Methodist minister?
Answer Mike, I am saddened to hear that your heart is distressed. This cannot be a joyous time for you. If you can embrace a balanced Arminian theology of grace, as opposed to the usually Calvinist leanings of most Baptist teachings, then we may have a home for you. As you might guess from looking at us from the outside, we have a formal process that must be followed. It starts with you contacting a local UM pastor, who will put you in touch with a District Superintendent. You will then have several inches of real paperwork to wade through and on-line “paperwork” to complete. You will be assigned a mentor to help you through the duration of the process. You will be examined by a District Committee on Ordained Ministry. There will be at least three Seminary courses for you to complete: United Methodist Doctrine, United Methodist History, and United Methodist Polity, presuming your seminary was on our list of approved schools.
