Arrests are handled in one of three ways: Some misdemeanor crimes can be handled by the issuance of a criminal citation.Other misdemeanors and some felonies are handled by taking persons arrested to the police station for booking (fingerprints, photographs, etc.). They can be released after booking or taken to the Maricopa County Jail where they will be seen by a Magistrate. The judge then decides whether to release the person or hold them until trial.
