What is the procedure to switch research advisors?

When an entering student is hired by a faculty member, the commitment is three semesters with that faculty member. The faculty member has invested time and money in the student, so we strongly discourage students from switching advisors. If there is a definite problem between the advisor and student, then a candid talk with the advisor is necessary. The ECE Graduate Affairs Office is willing to assist in the discussions between the student and advisor to see if an agreement can be made or to assist in switching advisors if an agreement cannot be made.
