What is the procedure for washing a wig?
Every wig comes with washing instructions. Although they may vary slightly, following is a general guideline: First, it is important to remove any tangles! They will only get worse once the wig hits the water! (See below for how to de-tangle a wig.) Next, fill the basin (or a plastic dishwashing tub) with lukewarm water – not hot and not cool, but just barely warm. Pour in the shampoo (this varies by brand, but generally a capful will suffice). Stir the water around to disperse the shampoo, then dunk the wig into the basin, and swish it around a bit. DON’T rub it or wring it – be gentle! You may want to let it soak for a few minutes to help dissolve any styling products (i.e. wig spray, gel, or mousse) that have accumulated on the strands. Drain (or pour out) the soapy water and fill the basin or tub with plain lukewarm water. Swish the wig around to rinse it.
