What is the procedure for obtaining a field placement? What does the Office of Field Instruction do with my field placement materials?
Incoming students will receive field placement materials in an email sent to their U-M account or an alternate email account in June (if they have not registered for a U-M uniqname). The Agency Placements Listing contains descriptions of fieldwork sites and placement opportunities. Students complete the online field placement materials and indicate preferred fieldwork sites. Office of Field Instruction (OFI) field educators/field liaisons consider each student’s interests, goals, and background to determine which fieldwork sites might be well-matched to particular students. Students’ preferences are always evaluated. Students are likely to get one of their preferred options if the slot is still available, no other student has selected the same slot, and the student’s interests and background match the fieldwork site’s needs.
