What is the procedure for checking a dog or cat over when they come into Battersea Dogs & Cats Home?
• First, all the dogs and cats coming into the Home must be checked by our Vet. Then the animals are seen by our Intake and Triage team. Each dog and cat is given a name and a number and logged on our computer system. All animals are given a thorough health check on arrival and scanned for a microchip. All animals are given a chance to settle and then every dog and cat is assessed to determine its temperament. It is through this procedure that we find out about the animals’ personalities and build up a picture of what type of home would suit them best. The dogs and cats are assessed using a variety of tests and methods to provide an insight into each individual. The aim is to interact with the animal as an owner would so they are handled, cuddled and groomed as part of the assessment. The Intake and Assessing team works closely with our Rehomers and Animal Welfare Assistants to ensure that the animal is properly cared for whilst in the Home. No dog or cat would ever be rehomed by Batte
