What is the procedure for buying real estate in Greece?
As soon as you choose the real estate you desire to buy, you have to hire a lawyer and a notary. If you do not have a Tax Record number from the Greek authorities you have to apply for getting one. (This can be done by your lawyer assigning him as trustee). If you are residence outside Greece you have to open an account in a Greek Bank allowing the money to be transferred from your country to be definitely justified and to be certified that will be used for the purchase of a particular real estate purchase. (This can be done again by your lawyer assigning him as trustee). Your lawyer will prepare a draft with the contract terms and the payment terms of the real estate. You pay in advance against the real estate value. (The advance payment is better to be given to your lawyer and to be submitted only after the signature of the final contract.) After the transfer tax fees are paid the final contract is made. This takes approximately 6-8 weeks after your first step at your notary offices.
