What is the procedure for a locality that is making application for Medicaid for a child who is in need of residential placement?
The locality will coordinate the preauthorization process with the facility. The facility must submit a preauthorization review form to WVMI, along with supporting documentation as described in the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services Psychiatric Services Manual. If a child were ineligible for Medicaid, the locality would submit the CSA Checklist to WVMI along with supporting documentation, and an explanation that efforts to obtain Medicaid for the child were unsuccessful.
