What is the problem with the NEC / Packard Bell Pocket Gear 2030 ?
Some NEC / Packard Bell Pocket Gear 2030 units are shipped with a faulty ROM which prevent PocketTV and other applications from functionning correctly. When running PocketTV on a device that has the faulty ROM, you will get the following message: Fatal Application Error. Application PocketTV.eve has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. You can check the ROM version by doing a soft reset (press the reset button). When you reset the device, the ROM version displayed should be SQWWER18 or higher. If you see a lower version number, you have an incorrect ROM and some applications will not work. The faulty ROM prevents the routine KernelIoControl(IOCTL_HAL_GET_DEVICEID, …) from working properly. This routine is used by all applications that need to access the unique device ID number (this includes PocketTV and other applications, especially those using security, encryption and digital right management). Please contact NEC / Packard Bell customer support and request a ROM U
