What is the pressure angle, and how does it compare to regular rack and pinion?
The average is approximately 23 degrees. Unique to the RPS, the pressure angle changes as the roller runs across the working surface. Note, however, that there exists a balancing effect as additional rollers come into contact. The load is shared, and thus, the variance in pressure angle is mitigated. Comparatively, conventional rack in our class is typically around 20 degrees. This means the separation forces, on average, are similar with the RPS to conventional gearing.
