What is the pre-anesthetic protocol?
Your regular veterinarian will most likely run blood tests know as a Complete Blood Count and Serum Chemistry. These tests are very good methods for determining the overall health of your pet. Since we will receive a copy of these tests from your vet, we concentrate our pre-anesthetic protocol on those parameters necessary to determine your pet’s anesthetic risk. We test blood clotting functions to identify any bleeding risks, the acid/base status to verify normal metabolic processes necessary for proper anesthesia management, pre-operative chest radiographs to ensure clear lungs during the gas anesthetic phase and, lastly, an electrocardiogram to check cardiac rhythm and status.
