What is the Prattville Historic Preservation Commission? When and where does the Commission meet?
The Prattville Historic Preservation Commission is established by Ordinance 2002-024 under the authority of Title 11, Chapter 68 of the Code of Alabama, 1975, as amended. The Commission’s seven members are appointed by the City Council and serve three year staggered terms. The Commission is charged by state and local law with 1) preserving and protecting buildings, structures and sites of historic and architectural value in the city historic district, 2) preparing surveys of historic properties in Prattville and surrounding areas, 3) recommending buildings, structures, sites and districts for designation as historic properties or districts, 4) restoring and preserving historic properties acquired by the city, 5) promoting acquisition of facade and conservation easements by the city, 6) developing and conducting educational programs on historic projects and districts and on historic preservation subjects, 7) making such investigations and studies of matters relating to historic preserva
