What is the potential digital television (DTV) market worldwide?
Global DTV unit shipments are expected to grow from 68 million in 2006 to more than 144 million by 2011, according to In-Stat. By 2012, 504 million households – 43 percent of the world’s TV homes – will receive digital signals, according to Informa Telecoms & Media. China will be a major contributor to DTV growth, accounting for 60 million of the total homes, while the U.S. will account for 39 million, India 23 million and Japan 20 million. These four countries alone will account for 54 percent of digital households worldwide. The other amazing fact is that 60 million homes is only 15% of the households in China. Thus the potential is there for faster and larger growth in China.
