What is the possibility of scar sparing techniques in breast reduction ?
Dr.Aslani: Scar-sparing breast reduction aims at reducing the traditional anchor or T scar, and ideally gets away with either just a vertical or alternatively a so-called “L-scar”. This is possible for some, but not for all breasts. Limits are normally ptosis (sagginess) and resection weight. Patients ususally ask me what the best technique for breast reduction is and I tell them there is none, because every breast reduction, just as every breast, is different.I generally recommend patients looking for a breast reduction to bear one thing in mind: The shape of the breast after a breast reduction is more important than the scars, because this is what determine patient happiness at the end of the day. Bear in mind that breast reduction scars tend to look red and “angry” initially, but this does eventually fade in most cases. The difference in aspect of a breast reduction scar between their aspect shortly after healing of the incisions and the look a year after the operation is dramatic.
