What is the POSITIVE POWER Service Project?
The Girl Scout POSITIVE POWER service project is a partnership among the council and shelters that serve survivors of domestic violence. Girl Scouts all over our council are encouraged to participate. They can collect items individually, as a troop, or organize drives that involve their Service Unit or community. Once items are collected they can then be taken to the shelter closest to them. Why are the Girl Scouts involved in this Type of Program? The answer is simple: Relationship violence is a serious problem. Girl Scouts has the potential to reach thousands of girls – hopefully before relationship violence becomes an issue in their lives. POSITIVE POWER reaches girls between the ages of 6 and 17 – the peak of a girl’s self-identity development. The age-appropriate programs have been designed to help girls understand the dynamics of healthy – and unhealthy – relationships.
