This included 57,130 households and about 36,391 families who had made the city their home with the density of population being 1,829.3/km² . The count in the greater Springfield-Hartford metro section of the city is about 1.5 million residents. Springfield is also home to a multicultural mix of people with around 56% of the population being White, 21% African American and the rest comprising of Native Americans, Asians, Hispanics, Latinos and other races. Springfield comes in as the third largest city in the whole of Massachusetts and is home to the very famous Springfield Falcons hockey team. Owing to its Victorian mansions it got the nickname ‘City of Homes’.
