The population of Limon, Colorado was 2,071 at the 2000 census. Limon is known as the “Hub City” of Eastern Colorado as Interstate 70, U.S. Routes U.S. Route 2424, U.S. Route 4040, and U.S. Route 287287 all cross paths here. The Limon Correctional Facility is part of the Colorado Department of Corrections system and is a major employer in the area with employment of roughly 350. The local Limon High School Football team is highly regarded and respected throughout the area, providing a sense of local pride with their dominance of 1A Football. Under the leadership of Coach Lloyd Gaskill the Limon Badgers won 10 state championships compiling a record of 236-52-8 under his tenure. In 1969 the local Football field was renamed as “Lloyd E. Gaskill Field,” in his honor. In 1992 Lloyd was inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame.
