Current estimates from SEMCOG show the population was 3,495 in September, 2006. http://www.semcog.org/Data/CommunityProfiles/index.htm There is no political connection between the Village of Dexter and the nearby Dexter Township, MichiganTownship of Dexter, which is located to the northwest of the municipality. Both, however, were named for Judge Samuel William Dexter (son of Samuel Dexter, the early American statesman), who, in 1824, became the first person to purchase land in what is now Dexter village.
