What is the policy on “For Sale” posts?
Unlike most other lists, the OldTools charter expressly allows commercial postings by its members, with the stipulation that the sellers also participate in the group’s discussions. In short, we don’t mind if you sell old tools via the list, so long as you pass on your expertise with it. In the interest of keeping the buying and selling message traffic small enough to not get in the way of the real purpose of the list, a few guidelines have been established: • Members are permitted one FS notice per month. It can be posted at any time. • Do not use file attachments! Attachments often interrupt e-mail downloads, causing dial-up subscribers to have to babysit the downloads of the hundreds of messages which are sent on FMM. • Format your messages for portability. Many mail readers don’t convert HTML on-the-fly, and word-wrap can be horrendous to read, especially if someone is trying to post a table, and mailreader is displaying in a variable width font.
