What is the Policy for Excused Withdrawal (EW) versus Withdrawal (W) from a course after the drop/add period?

Except for Graduate Seminars and a few other specified courses (see the “Note” section under the course listing in the Course Schedule), students can withdraw from a course any time up to and until the start of the final exam or the due date for the paper. Students who withdraw from a course during the first four weeks will receive an excused withdrawal (EW) on their transcript. Students who withdraw from a course after the first four weeks will receive a withdrawal (W) on their transcript. Bulletin Link.
