What is the Police National Computer (PNC)?
The Police National Computer (PNC) is a computer system in which the Police Forces of the UK hold and share data relating to offenders and crimes, including details of vehicles. It is the main tool used by the Police, as well as several other criminal justice and intelligence agencies throughout the country, 24/7, to investigate criminal activity. It interfaces with many other security systems concerned with national security. The main operational PNC is held at the Hendon Data Centre (HDC) in London, which at the time of the Buncefield Oil Depot disaster was managed by the Police Information Technology Organisation (PITO – now superseded by the National Policing Intelligence Agency). Like all good data centres, a mirror computer system was housed well away from the main computer system to act as a backup should the first computer fail for any reason. document.getElementById(‘adsense_placeholder_2’).innerHTML = document.getElementById(‘adsense_ad_2_hidden’).innerHTML; PNC DR System Des
