What is the point of user sponsorship?
Some users cannot afford to pay the contest entrance fees. Some users cannot photoshop, or may have extra credits. In effect, bidding lets the two of them team up to submit a paid entry. The first place winnings get split 50 / 50 between the sponsor and the player and the trophy goes to the player. Selecting the play for sponsorship option will then put you on the bid listings page for that contest. Interested sponsors can then choose to sponsor you if they like. They will be presented with some of your raw stats and they usually look to your voting habits in deciding whether or not to bid on you.
