IMO, it is a way to escape your real life. Through soaps, you can see how other people struggle daily, and forget about your own problems. They are simply a way to entertain. After all, soap operas are the reason for everything we have on TV today. Guiding Light paved the way for future television, and has shown that through hard work- anything is possible. It has been on for 70+ years…the longest show in TV history. For that, soaps are the basis of all TV.
