What is the point of getting married?

1. When we refer to marriage, most of the time we are referring to civil marriage, not a religious ceremony. 2. Because I think committed homosexual couples deserve the same legal recognitions and rights as heterosexual couples do. 3. You’re right. Not everyone holds their marriage in a church. But why does that make it any less special? If they wanted to hold it in a forest in the middle of nowhere, that wouldn’t make it any less special. 4. “You do not acknowledge the supernatural or a greater being to unite you two”, that’s not the point of marriage. Not all heterosexual people are religious. Remember that. 5. I’ve always believed in logic and rationality, and the rules, constraints, and facts that apply in this universe. (There may be things beyond this universe, but nobody has the slightest inkling of what could be there, therefore people can only speculate and not say anything with any degree of certainty.
