What is the place of reading in the UPLG initiative?
Reading is integral to all the aspects of the UPLG initiative. The reading focus of the UPLG initiative is on comprehension and using the increasingly complex texts of middle phase learning. It may be necessary to use adaptive technology such as screen readers and other strategies such as reading texts to students and group work to support the decoding aspects of reading. In this way, students develop their resources in code breaking, meaning making, text using and text analysing as they extract information from age appropriate texts. They read and reread their own texts which include enhanced language acquired during the task. Students learn to read while they are reading to learn.
