What is the PhD Hooding process?
• The faculty member who is hooding the PhD student will be near the front row on stage. • The PhD student will NEED to talk to and remind the faculty member that he/she needs to be at commencement, will need a robe (Faculty/Emeriti URL), and will need to explain the hooding process to him/her. • PhD students will be lined-up near the stage, the commencement reader will call each person’s name. The PhD student will move to the center of the stage, hand the hood to the faculty member, and sit down. • The faculty member places the hood on the student. • Afterward, the PhD student can shake the hand of (or hug) the person that hooded him or her. • The PhD student will return to his/her seat.
