What is the Personal Health Information Registry?

0

The AHR Act requires that the AHRC maintain a confidential Personal Health Information Registry (PHIR) containing information on donors, persons who undergo assisted reproduction procedures, and persons conceived by means of these procedures. The confidentiality of this information is protected under the AHR Act and other legislation such as the Privacy Act. Health information that licensees will be required to provide to the Agency will be set out in regulations which will be developed by Health Canada. The PHIR will be developed in accordance with Treasury Board’s Policy on Privacy Protection, and will be useful in monitoring and improving the safety and effectiveness of AHR procedures. For example, the PHIR will enable AHRC to issue yearly reports that compare the results of various ARH procedures, and can help inform the development of appropriate treatment guidelines or policy decisions. The PHIR will eventually become a key component of a larger AHR health surveillance system pro
