What is the penalty for driving with no insurance?
It depends on where you live….all the way down to the city. I had to go to traffic court once in Overland Park, KS, and there were about 30 people in there…all of them were there because a year ago they had been caught without insurance, and had to report to court several times per year with proof that they have had continuous auto insurance coverage with no lapses. That was an additional penalty in addition to having to pay a large fine. I am sure the car was impounded, which costs money as well. I don’t think that jail is a penalty unless that person has other violations or warrants.
