What is the Parental and Family Leave Act?
The R.I. Parental and Family Medical Leave Act is thirteen consecutive weeks of unpaid leave for the birth of a child, placement of an adopted child sixteen years or age of younger, or a serious illness or injury, impairment or condition that involves inpatient care in a hospital, nursing home or hospice; or outpatient care requiring continuing treatment or supervision by a health care provider. Family member means parent, spouse, child, mother-in-law, father-in-law, or the employee him or herself.
