What is the overall structure of the GESI program?
Three components form a student’s GESI experience: a 7-day pre-departure training, an 8-week project-based internship with a community-based organization at one of our three locations, and a short final summit in which students reflect on their experiences, share what they have learned, and explore how to transform their summer experience into a lifestyle of global engagement. The 7-day pre-departure training will feature intensive course work focused on international community development, team dynamics in international development, the local history, politics, and culture of India, Argentina, and Uganda as well as health, safety and logistics sessions. In addition to lectures and discussions with Northwestern professors and guest speakers, students will have a chance to bond with the four to five person team with whom they will spend the summer and to speak to their NGO hosts via skype phone calls.
