What is the Orillia Canada Day Singalong?
THE GOAL of the Orillia Canada Day SingAlong is to capture the musical energy of the Canada Day fireworks spectators and create a Super Sized Campfire Sing Song. Then the whole waterfront sings O Canada to touch off the fireworks. It is a tribute to Canadian Music and a unique Orillia Waterfront Experience. Who picks the songlist? The members of the Strumalong Band work through song suggestions and shortlist workable selections. We then slowly vote off songs until we have 9 plus O Canada. What are the song selection rules? The songs must meet the following “Campfire Song” criteria. It must be a Canadian creation, reflecting life in Canada, recognized by many and easy to play and sing in a group.We do reserve at least one place for a hometown tribute to Gordon Lightfoot. What is the Strumalong Band? The StrumAlong band is a loose rhythm section comprised of accomplished and campfire players of various acoustic instruments.
