Historians suggest that the Vanderlip family of North America is descendant from the von der Lippe family in Germany. It is thought that a member of the von der Lippe family emigrated from what is now Germany eventually settling in The Netherlands. The name was changed to the Dutch van der Lip. In about 1750 William van der Lip immigrated to America. In America the name was changed to Vanderlip. William Vanderlip is the forefather of many of the North American Vanderlips. There is little known about a Boudewyn van der Lip who is the first known Vanderlip to settle in America.
