What Is the Origin of the Game of Marbles?
While some variation of the game of marbles appears to have existed in a wide variety of cultures and geographical locations, the game is believed to have originated in prehistoric times. The earliest marbles were formed by rolling tiny bits of natural clay into balls. Small clay balls have been discovered in ancient Egyptian tombs as well as in Aztec pyramids. The exact rules of the game may have varied, but some type of marble play appears to have been around from the earliest stages of history.
