What is the origin of St. Michaels Mount, Cornwall?
Legend says that the Mount was built by the giant Cormoran, who forced his wife Cormelian to carry white granite boulders through the dark forest that once covered what is now Mount’s Bay. While Cormoran slept, his wife tried to substitute the moreeasily collected local greenstone. The giant was furious, and he kicked his wife so hard that her apron string broke and the green stone boulder dropped on the causeway where it still lies. A later story says that St Keyne conferred on any husband or wife, who sat on the rocky chair within the castle first, the ability to dominate the marriage.
