What is the ore of Sodium metal and how is it extracted from it?
Salt is the common “Ore” of sodium. Sodium is extracted by the electrolysis of fused sodium chloride. You cannot electrolyse aqueous solutions to obtain sodium. A sodium amalgam can however be made by electrolysing aqueous solutions with a mercury cathode. 2NaCl (l) > 2Na (l) + Cl2 (g) Sodium is used as a coolant in some reactors and as a heat exchange material because of its low melting point and good conductivity of heat. Obviously water must be excluded.
