What is the optimum speed for fuel efficiency?
The optimum speed depends on the vehicle (which you have given). Unfortunately, I have not driven your car, so I cannot say. From my understanding, you will get the best economy from driving in the tallest gear (in most cases) with a low engine speed. In your case, you would drive fast enough to allow the car to shift into Overdrive as well as allow the torque converter to lock up. As you speed up, count your gear changes until you hit your tallest gear, then you will notice something that looks like a half-shift (the rpm will drop a few hundred). For example, my truck can shift into OD at approx 33mph, but doesn’t allow the torque converter to lockup until I get above 40mph (with minimal load). So my optimum speed would be approx 45mph, where I’m in the top gear at the slowest allowable engine speed. My wife’s escape doesn’t lockup till 45, so her’s is 45-50. I would imagine your car to fall in the 45-55mph range.
best fuel economy comes from the amount of revs not speed to get the best economy you will need to be driving at about 3000 revs if your car does not have a rev counter the speed will be about 68mph i am i mechanic by trade and this what the dealer ship i work for tells us to tell folk if you are still not sure look in your hand book it will tell you in there
