What is the optimal ph level of the reservoir?
The ph of the reservoir should be kept between 6 and 7. A ph above or below these values will inhibit the ability of the plant to absorb nutrient. This chart illustrates the ph levels preferred by a range of plants (obviously, some the plants in this list are inappropriate for the Tapestry system, and are included just for reference). In a “conventional” drip irrigation system, new tap water is delivered to the plants and then wasted away by drainage out of the plant roots. This new tap water is generally at a ph level of 7 because that’s is what the water districts target. In the Tapestry system, water is continually recycled through the system. the ph of the water in the reservoir will gradually rise because the growing plants will increase the ph level in the reservoir. In this case, a rising ph level is a good thing, as it indicates healthy growing flora. However, this ph must be managed downward to maintain the best growing environment.
