The recommended maximum cluster density is 400,000 clusters/mm². This is lower that the cluster density currently recommended for the Genome Analyzer and is expected to increase in the future.

The recommended maximum cluster density is 750,000–850,000 clusters/mm² when using Illumina’s v3 cluster generation and sequencing reagents in combination with HCS v1.4.
