What is the only animal in the world that can jump?
I’ve heard this question before, and the expected answer is usually the elephant. You sometimes see this on those lists of neat “facts” that sound good enough to be true. It helps that the asnwer comes with a semi-unexpected line of reasoning: the elephant can’t jump because it would break its legs coming down! While that might be true, it just means that elephants can’t (or shouldn’t) jump, not that they’re the ONLY animals that can’t. For starters, let’s look at invertebrates that can’t jump: sponges, corals, snails, clams, jellies, sea stars, etc. For vertebrates: seahorses, salamanders, turtles, chameleons, hippos, rhinoceroses, sloths, etc.
