Patients over 55 require very strong indications for bypass surgery and must also meet stringent criteria. The chances of surgery risks increase as age increases, but weight loss surgery can reduce the risk of mortality from obesity-related health conditions. Currently our practice does not perform bypass operations on patients over 55, however they are eligible for Lap Band® surgery and do extremely well.
