What is the oldest nation on earth that still exists today?

Great question and one that’s hard to answer. If you are talking about ancient nations and their civilizations, then Greece is in good standing, but both Greece and Egypt have governments unlike those of the past. Likewise, China, India, and so on. The actual answer (and I’d be hard pressed to prove this) may be somewhere really obscure, like Nepal… or a Native American tribe (also known as a nation). Just some thoughts. Anyone actually know what the oldest nation with its current political system is? ADDENDUM: I’m going to go with India. While it was under British rule and part of the commonwealth, not much has changed (other than the management). As another person said, Egypt (and this applies to other Middle Eastern countries as well) has disappeared from time to time, losing all recognition as a separate country. And even though India was part of the commonwealth, it was still a separate nation. Good question, no matter how you cut it.
