What is the Ohio Bicentennial Diversity Project?
The Ohio Bicentennial Diversity Project (OBDP) was established in 2008 by Lynn Stevens. The OBDP is an outgrowth of the Ohio Bicentennial Commission’s (OBC) African American Advisory Council. The former OBC was established by the Governor and General Assembly to coordinate events throughout the state that celebrated significant milestones and accomplishments in Ohio’s history and to commemorate Ohio’s 200th birthday in 2003. The African American Advisory Council coordinated events that celebrated contributions that African Americans have made to Ohio’s history. One of the activities we spearheaded was a 2003 / 2004 calendar highlighting contributions African Americans have made to Ohio’s history. The OBDP is a continuation of this initial effort to showcase the significant contributions individuals, places, and events have played throughout Ohio’s history.
