What is the OGHA ice allocation policy for house league versus competitive?
All teams are initially allocated the same amount of ice-time per season. Not including preseason and clinics – it is a base of 24 hours that includes games and practices. Generally, we see 10 to 12 hours used for games leaving 12 to 14 hours for practices. Since most house league teams do not want to incur additional costs, half ice practices are more efficient and allow us to get the players on the ice as often as possible (24 versus 12 practices). Another factor to be considered is that there is often less than full attendance by the house league players and this helps us make better use of our valuable ice resources. Occasionally, we are able to get the HL teams a full ice practice that can be used to reschedule games, play an exhibition game or have a practice. Competitive teams prefer to take their 12 hours as full-ice practices and we have been able to accommodate this – if we expand the number of teams next year, this may not be possible, and all teams will then have half-ice p
