What Is The Official Chinese Newspaper Called?
The official Chinese state runnewspaper is called Renmin Ribao, the People’s Daily. However, ‘news’ in China is very different to how other countries may understand news. The Communist party has run China since 1949 and it does not tolerate any opposition. The Xinhua News Agency provides all the news to be distributed to all the newspapers and radio/television stations. This news agency can decide what is appropriate for the people to be told and what they do not need to know. In other words, the newspapers are heavily censored. There are other newspapers, but these too are controlled by the State and do not question the Government or how it acts. Some newspapers such as The People’s Liberation Army Daily, indicates through its title that it is not an independent free thinking newspaper, but is mainly used for proaganda and to further the beliefs of Communism and the Communist state.
