Sounds like you are talking about a A1C test. For a non-diabetic normal is considered to be < 6.0. In the United States (and pretty much world-wide) the standard is either: < 7.0 according to the American Diabetes Association or < 6.5 according to American Endocrinologists Association. I personally subscribe to the < 6.5 theory. Also, you mentioned you are an Aussie. There is a guy named Alan S from Australia who is the resident expert (also a Type 2) on the American Diabetes Association blogs. Go to their website and look for some of his posts, he usually puts links to his web pages in his posts and they contain a ton of accurate and realistic information. GOOD LUCK!
