What is the normal dpi resolution for printing on fabrics?
Despite what a number of people have said here, you can go much lower than 300 dpi for silk screen and still get very good results. Generally, 300 dpi is the standard for offset printing. But silk screen is a different beast because it uses a lot coarser line screen, usually around 110 lpi, because the ink is thicker. So all those extra pixels in a 300 dpi image don’t really create any better quality printing. Silk screen printing is also affected by the fabric on which you’re printing. This isn’t so much because of porosity as it is the weave of the fabric. Think of silk screen as the dot pattern in your silk screen (lpi) intersecting with the weave of the fabric. So a tightly woven fabric will print better than a coarse fabric. I’ve had lots of success with using images that are between 150 to 200 dpi for t-shirt printing. And you can even get some interesting affects with forced index color bitmap conversions. And the crunchy dot pattern effect can also have a nice retro look, sort
