What is the “Nintendo Wii”?
“Wii” is the official name for Nintendo’s next-generation console. Nintendo followed the name with a mission statement, explaining the name reflects the company’s desire to bring about change in the video gaming industry. With Wii, Nintendo is looking to put forth an emphasis on game play and innovation, rather than focusing on expensive technology. Nintendo representatives have said the company’s goal is to expand the market by reaching out to hardcore gamers, casual gamers, and even those whom do not consider themselves gamers.
The Nintendo Wii (as in “we”), formerly codenamed Revolution, is the successor to the GameCube. The picture that you are seeing is actually a model. It will actually be the size of three DVD cases stack together. The gray is part you see at the bottom is actually the “stand” in which you put the Wii on when you want to put it in vertical stand. It can still be played horizontal. According to Nintendo, the price will be lower than their competitors (most likely under $300 U.S.). According to Yahoo however, Nintendo announced that it will be lower than $250.It is expected to be released after May but before Thanksgiving (November 23, 2006). The console will come in different colors such as red, black, white, lime green, and gray.
